Carpel Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition where the median nerve — which runs from the forearm into the palm — becomes compressed as it passes through a narrow space in the wrist known as the carpal tunnel.

This compression interferes with nerve signalling, leading to pain, tingling, numbness, and weakness in the hand and fingers.

For many, it begins quietly — as occasional tingling in the thumb or fingers, mild wrist discomfort, or a sense of heaviness in the hand. Over time, symptoms may become more frequent and start interfering with daily activities such as writing, holding objects, using a phone, cooking, or even sleeping.

Common experiences include:
• Tingling or numbness in the thumb, index, middle, or ring fingers
• Burning or aching wrist pain
• Hand weakness or dropping objects
• Reduced grip strength
• Pain radiating into the forearm or elbow
• Night-time worsening of symptoms
• A feeling of stiffness or swelling in the wrist

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome often develops through a combination of:
• Repetitive hand or wrist movements
• Prolonged computer or phone use
• Poor ergonomic posture
• Inflammatory conditions
• Fluid retention or swelling
• Hormonal shifts (such as pregnancy or thyroid imbalance)
• Metabolic stress (diabetes, obesity)

In many cases, the nerve itself remains structurally healthy — but the surrounding tissues become tight, inflamed, or congested, gradually reducing the space within the tunnel.

At Vihaara, carpal tunnel is not seen only as a wrist condition, but as a reflection of how circulation, inflammation, posture, and nervous system load have been interacting over time.

It is often linked with broader patterns of muscular tension, metabolic strain, sleep disruption, and prolonged stress on the body.

Living with carpal tunnel can quietly limit independence — making even simple actions feel frustrating or painful.

If you notice persistent tingling, numbness, or hand weakness, a consultation at Vihaara offers space to understand what your body may be responding to — beyond just the wrist.

Nerve compression is not always about damage.
Often, it is about pressure — physical, metabolic, or postural — building slowly over time.
